Dolly Parton Tribute Tonight: How to Watch, Who's Performing, and Why She's Everywhere This Week
Dolly Parton searches have been climbing all week — her name is on the trending lists, her songs are being streamed, and "Dolly Parton Halloween costume" is one of the most-searched costumes in America right now. The centerpiece is tonight: a two-hour live television tribute, eight weeks after her death.
How to watch tonight
"CMA Presents I Will Always Love You: A Celebration of Dolly Parton" airs live Wednesday, October 21, 2026, from 9:00 to 11:00 PM ET on ABC and Disney+, filmed before a live audience at Belmont University's Fisher Center for the Performing Arts in Nashville. It streams on Hulu starting Thursday. Proceeds from the event benefit Parton's Imagination Library, the program she founded that mails free books to children every month.
Who's performing
The Country Music Association assembled more than 20 performers spanning three generations of country music: Reba McEntire, Carrie Underwood, Vince Gill, Ricky Skaggs, Brad Paisley, Darius Rucker, Lady A, Little Big Town, Lainey Wilson, Ella Langley, Kelsea Ballerini, Carly Pearce, Ashley McBryde, Béla Fleck, Molly Tuttle, Sierra Hull, Lukas Nelson and Zac Brown, with Kristen Bell and Kristin Chenoweth joining from the acting world. Amy Grant and Kimberly Williams-Paisley appear as special guests, a Belmont student ensemble from the university's "Dolly U" program performs, and the CMA has promised additional surprise tributes. Nashville is a fitting stage: Parton's musical Dolly played its pre-Broadway run at Belmont last year.
Why now
Parton died on August 25, 2026, at age 80, following a brief battle with cancer. The tribute is the music industry's formal farewell to one of its most universally loved figures — a singer and songwriter ("Jolene," "9 to 5," and "I Will Always Love You," which she wrote) whose career ran from Nashville studios to Hollywood to Dollywood, and whose philanthropy — above all the Imagination Library — reached millions of children. As CMA CEO Sarah Trahern put it: "Dolly Parton belonged to the whole world, but she was born of this industry, and this industry owes her a debt of gratitude that words alone cannot repay."
And yes, the costumes
The week's most unexpected stat comes from Google's Frightgeist, which tracks Halloween costume searches: the Dolly Parton costume is the No. 12 costume search in the US overall and No. 1 in Knoxville, with searches at an all-time peak — and four of the top five markets are in her native Tennessee. A farewell, it turns out, that a lot of people plan to wear.
